Defining Wellness
Wellness is a balanced state of mind that occurs naturally within each of us. Embracing some simple concepts and awareness into your everyday lifestyle will empower your health, and help you to become more energized and balanced. Minutes a day incorporated into things you currently do will make a noticeable difference in your health and vitality!
There are many components of wellness that we often don’t recognize, but they are the real zappers of our overall physical health. We need a balance of all of these aspects of our whole being to prevent disease and/or illness from seeping in the cracks. Occasional day-to-day circumstances should not result in long-term ill health issues. The key is to balance the little things that are in your control. A holistic approach to wellness is the critical awareness to your well-being. The following are areas of your well-being that attribute to your wellness balance.
Our physical component of wellness refers to maintaining an overall quality of life to sustain our activities of daily living without stressing our bodies beyond limitations on a regular basis.
Our emotional responses to everyday challenges and interactions are based on past feelings. These can be reframed to find joy in more of the day to day, overall feelings.
Our energetic wellness defines our vital energy. This begins with our intrinsic choice to be a vibrant smile that brings joy to those around us - or choosing to complain and be negative about ourselves and others.
Our mental well-being leads our many thoughts from our beliefs in life, so we need to keep them positive within the realm of the reality of our lives. Our purpose is to continue to grow as lifelong learners, then expand and share our experiences with others in a positive outreach and belonging.
Our social experiences and interactions with others in meaningful and uplifting activities help promote wellness. Opportunities to expand our horizons, growing and sharing with others, will foster self-confidence.
Our spiritual wellness refers to anytime that we create opportunities to look within and be still with ourselves or giving thanks to creation for all that is. This centering is a critical piece for belonging and joy. Fellowship with like minded others also fosters a social balance.
Our environmental wellness encompasses the integrity of the physical surroundings of our home or workplace and can contribute to or deplete our overall health. Awareness of air quality, light, comfort and even toxic personalities can help you to make adjustments in either the physical space or your mindset.
Our professional wellness or occupation should provide us an income to accommodate our basic needs and lifestyles, as well as sharing with others. It should be personally rewarding without draining our time and energy so that the other aspects of our wellness can thrive, not just exist.
