A Life of Awe...An Awe-filled Life

We have all had that awe-struck feeling before- hopefully many times. It usually comes up suddenly, out of nowhere - you just find yourself in it! Sometimes we get excited about an event and shiver to ourselves, "This is going to be awesome!" and then it turns out not to be the experience we had anticipated. Awesome usually works better when it just presents itself on its own terms. When it does come, we often wish to stay in that feeling or seek similar experiences. That is absolutely possible, just not always probable.

What if you were to reframe your thinking and embrace everyday experiences as awesome, awe – filled, awe- inspiring?

You know, the ‘I can't believe I'm doing this’...the beauty, the stillness; the right here, the right now. Why not find that vacation feeling or special events awe in the everyday things of life? Think about your day-to-day activities. If you view it as the ‘daily grind,’ then you’re only using half your mind!

Are you doing something fulfilling you have never done before?

Seeing something inspiring you have never seen before?

Experiencing something noteworthy you have never experienced before?

Feeling something compelling you have never felt before?

Recognizing all of the wonderful experiences in our jobs and activities of daily living can become a very motivating habit! The blessings of each day can be numerous once we open our eyes to them. When there is an overwhelming pile of dishes, I breathe deeply and smile as I remind myself of all of the blessings that came from the meals I have eaten. The dishes don’t go away, but the task becomes meaningful as the purposed that it served is acknowledged with gratitude.

So, take a second look at the things you do everyday. Turn the mundane into champaign and celebrate the little gifts that each day bestows on us. Practice the gratitude, reframe your thinking and then reach out and share your experiences that you have revisited and start the ripple effect of everyday joy around you.
