The Gift of a New Day

How many times have you heard yourself or someone else use the phrase, “just another day?” Just another day at the office; just another day in paradise (in jest); just another day of same old same old… It seems to be a comfortable and accepted phrase, but I think some reframing is necessary here.
When I realize that I’ve actually woken up on the ‘top side of the grass’ as they say, my first thought is far from ‘just another day.’ I immediately give thanks for being brought to the light of a new day. That is my starting point - that is my reference point for anything going forward that the day may bring - ‘good, bad, or indifferent.’
Notice that the saying good, bad, or indifferent begins with good. Too often we start the day dwelling in the bad, or the indifferent. Who wants an indifferent day? If God brought me to the light of a new day, I’m thinking He has a purpose for me - I’m thinking that his plan was not to give me an indifferent day. I choose to pick up the good end of that new day baton and run with the greatness, the love, and the difference that I can extend to those around me in the day that I have been given. Giving thanks for the light of a new day as bad or indifferent is just not an option!
Making a difference can be as simple as a smile or a kind word or gesture towards a stranger. I don’t mean random acts of kindness or love – live intentionally, not randomly. Let kindness, love and compassion be steadfast in your essence. Honor, bless, and hug those you love often, for as you know, the gift of a new day does not always come – it is a blessing to be enjoyed now – in the present. Unwrap the gift with gratitude and give it purpose.
When I go to bed at night I want to be sure that my day was not indifferent. I want to know that I not only walked where God wanted me to walk, but that I fulfilled a purpose within the gift of the new day that I was blessed with. I want to rest assured that I extended and increased my gift with joy and thanksgiving.
Accept that gift of a new day and use it-
Live the love, give the love, be the love-
Share that gift and make a difference…be the difference
…always be the love that you were called to be in each day
