May I?

Welcome to the month of May! Here we are already at the fifth calendar month! Though summer does not officially arrive until June 21, to many, the observance of Memorial Day at the end of May signifies the start of the summer season. May is also the month in which mothers are recognized, or some influential caretaker who has guided and loved us as the seasons and years come and go. Nature gives us tulips, lilacs, and lilies of the valley among all of the other may flowers.

The word may expresses possibilities, permissions, or wishes and hopes. I think I may ____ today. May I be excused? May I have….? May I suggest……?

May I cut in here? When we cut in, we are basically interrupting the flow of something. (If you are in third grade, you ‘budge’ in line, or cut in ahead of another child!) May I ask you what’s on your mind as we make plans to transition into summer mode? What are you going to hope for, to dare to ask permission for, or to invite the possibility of?

May I invite you to dance the dance of springtime? Mother Nature has it all set up – the playlist is compliments of the returning birds, as their joyful trills and songs of the day fill the air; the flowers are abundantly and majestically dotted along the roadsides and walkways and blooms are bursting forth on bushes and trees; the sun is casting it’s spotlight upon the lush green of the lawns, as well as the earlier morning appearances and willingness to extend the daylight dance time. The butterflies have begun their delicate flights dancing from flower to flower. Most of this can be observed even from indoors, but take a few minutes to enjoy a breath of fresh air at this ongoing yard party.

So, may I ask you to take time to be in this breathtaking and exhilarating season of movement? May I interrupt the movement of your footsteps to be sure they are in step with the tune being played and to present you with an opportunity to change dance partners of everyday actitivites. Don’t stay stuck in the old dance that gives you no joy. May I suggest you try to lead if you are following, or follow if you are leading? Perhaps a slower or faster dance tune may help you to get into the flow.

May I invite you to slow down and enjoy all the beauty this month has to offer…May I wish you all the bright, joyful expansion of this season.

Finally, may I be excused? I want to go out and dance, breathe in the fresh air, and I may even go for an ice cream cone!

....always be the love that you are
