Beverages

Infused Water

If you are not a fan of water, and find yourself searching for flavored waters in the store, then this is the answer. By simply infusing your favorite flavors into your own filtered water, you get the added benefits of real vitamins, antioxidants, and nutrients. Plus you treat your body to the water it needs.

You can purchase fun water bottles for less than $10.00 that have a thin, slotted, tube inside them that keeps pulp, seeds, or anything you choose to flavor with, contained while the water absorbs the flavors. You can also use an empty tea bag sleeve that is used for loose tea. If neither of those are an option, you can infuse the flavor overnight and take your ingredients out before you enjoy your beverage, so you are not sipping or swallowing things.

During the summer months, ingredients like cucumber and mint are a staple in most, but they are too cooling for the fall and winter months.

One of my cool weather favorites is a few orange slices(with the scrubbed peel left on, 2 – 3 cloves, a cardamom pod, and cinnamon stick. All but the oranges can be reused multiple times.

Be creative, make a variety, and begin to enjoy your water!

Green Drink

This is one of the easiest way to get one fiber and nutrients in your body, but if you are looking for a taste treat, this is not it! But by blending greens at a high speed, it releases more nutrients than you can get from chewing.

Simply stuff Romaine lettuce into your food processor, or personal blender and add filtered water to fill line and blend. If you cannot do the pulp, then strain and drink, but the fiber is great! This is just a pure green drink, acting as a nourishing cleansing if consumed several times a week.

Mineral Drink

Mineral water – this beverage is very  hydrating, but for most, not the tastiest!  It is best consumed in the summer after periods of heat exposure, or for general maintenance of electrolytes. Caution not to overdue, or it may have a laxative effect.

Mix one half lemon, ¼ tsp salt and 12 oz. of room temperature filtered water. Feel free to garnish with mint, but it won't hide the salt!  Best to sip as a nourishing, rejuvenating beverage.

Spring/Fall Cleaning

This golden beverage is ideal to sip throughout the day in the spring and fall when there is excess dampness. I would not recommend it in summer or winter, since it may be too drying. It boosts digestion and cleans, and tonifies digestion.  Some have also told me that it aids weight loss.

Ingredients: 1 cup hot water, 1 Tbsp lemon juice, 1/8 tsp turmeric, 1/8 tsp ground ginger, 1 tsp. honey, pinch of cayenne.

Use any combination of fresh, dried or liquids to create.  The cayenne is very helpful, but puts quite a kick into the taste, so proceed cautiously!

Directions: In a mug, stir together hot water, lemon juice, turmeric, ginger, and cayenne and honey to taste until combined.  I generally just put about 1/4 cup of hot water to blend the ingredients, and then add to cold water.  It is easy to multiply the amounts and just make ahead by the 1/2 gallon so you have it for the week.  Store it in the fridge, but as with most beverages, I recommend drinking this at room temperature.

*If you are a green tea drinker, I would suggest using tea as part of the water.  Then you get the added benefits while not consuming or carrying around several beverages all day!
